THE DEDICATION TO THE FALLEN

The dedication on the memorial is interesting:

THESE WINDOWS WERE INSERTED TO COMMEMORATE THE GREAT
WAR AND THE MEN OF SWAFFHAM PRIOR WHO WERE KILLED
IN ACTION OR DIED OF WOUNDS OR DISEASE FIGHTING NOBLY
FOR GOD KING AND COUNTRY AGAINST THE AGGRESSION
AND BARBARITIES OF GERMAN MILITARISM

This states that the loss of life of loved ones was a necessary sacrifice to defend civilisation against the threat of German attack; the slaughter of the war was justified; those grieving could be reassured that their loss was not in vain, their loved ones had died for a noble cause.
